Taking Care of Oneself
I recently attended a wonderfully nurturing, relaxing and joyful event at The Sunhouse. My yoga teacher Clare and friend Jasmine accompanied me.
On the menu was:
Eden Energy Medicine with Laure
Created by Donna Eden these techniques of ‘tapping’ and ‘touching’ our meridians (energy channel network) to gently restore balance, health and well-being.
Chi Gong with Emma
“Chi” means life energy, breath; “Gong” nurturing, work. Through this work energy blockages are removed. Chi Gong trains inner perception while increasing enjoyment of life and our own self-healing powers. Our session was slow, controlled and soothing, synchronising movement with breath.
Yoga with Debbie
Hatha Yoga using Mantra (sound/phrases/words/syllables), Pranayama (breath control exercises), Asana (postures/movements), Yoga Nidra (psychic sleep – long, deep relaxation). We enjoyed a gentle, restorative yoga practice in the extreme 30+ centigrade heat. I relaxed so much during the Yoga Nidra I fell asleep!
The Sunhouse
The Sunhouse is idyllic. A small jigsaw puzzle-like structure of glass, fallen trees, wood, block work, with a clay and straw floor, complete with a wood burning stove, situated on the edge of woodland.
My dream is to open a yoga studio based on this type of eco-structure and woodland location. Just as the ancient yogis retreated to the woods to observe nature and contemplate life – perfect for the practice of yoga!
During the lunch break we walked in the refreshingly cool, deep, dark, woods and bathed in the cold water streams.
It is so important as a yoga teacher and Homoeopath that I take time to nurture and nourish myself.
In Ayurvedic terms I’m a Vata dosha – head in the clouds, sensitive, lively but burn out quickly, like the character Sid in the ‘Ice Age‘ movies.
I’m an empathic soul and spend so much of my time caring for others that can lead to energy depletion, imbalances, tiredness and weakened immunity leaving me susceptible to illnesses. It is vital to my wellbeing to make time to do the things I enjoy.
Experiencing the teaching of other yogis and yoginis helps to freshen my individual yoga practice and teaching. Other complementary therapies also add to my knowledge, provide valuable experiences and help me replenish my energy reserves.
The Sunhouse is an idyllic setting for some “me-time” and I highly recommend it.
The Joie de Vivre team (Laure, Emma and Debbie) are running a retreat to France this September and those attending are in for a real treat.🙏🏼
