Aura Yoga & Homoeopathy Crusaders’ Sponsored Walk March 2019
On the 2nd March 2019 our team of 16, AURA Yoga & Homoeopathy Crusaders, walked Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales’ highest mountain at 828m. We joined 200 other keen participants on the damp, cool, cloudy morning, to raise cash for Hospice of the Valleys, based in Ebbw Vale, Festival Drive, Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent NP23 8XFT: 01495 717277.
It was an invigorating walk uphill, over some rocky, wet, slippery ground but we made it to the summit and proudly wore or daffodil, sheep, dragon headgear in celebration of the patron saint of Wales, St. David, as it was St David’s day on 1st March. It was very windy at the summit so our plan to practice some yoga was thwarted, apart from a few of us managing Tree-pose (Vrksasana) and Anjali Mudra, in the low cloud and rain.
It was such fun to be with my yoga and homoeopathy friends and family, in the wonderfully rugged, green, beautiful Welsh countryside, with no Wi-Fi signal to distract from some of nature’s best landscape, including several fine reservoirs.
The event was extremely well organised by the Hospice of the Valleys team, with marshalls at base-camp, check-points along the route and individual group leaders to guide our way and ensure all participants were safe.
The majority of our group completed the walk in under 2 hours and we were so glad as by 1pm Storm Freya began to rage with heavy rain, strong winds and a real chill in the air.
Some of us even appeared in the local newspaper The Gwent Gazette!
Grateful thanks to our amazing team of walkers, supporters and sponsors our team alone raised a staggering £1,267.60 which will help provide vital care for cancer sufferers in the Blaenau Gwent area.
